Greetings from Guatemala, we pray this months newsletter finds you well. We made that trip to Chichicastango and installed the UV purifier for John and Sharon Harvey at Aselsi. They are a lovely couple who love the Lord and helping the people of Guatemala. We spent 2 days there and had a wonderful relaxing time along with helping them with their water needs. We were told that their facility sees and helps around 3000 people a month. They help with medical needs and education, a milk program for the poor and ministry education for pastors. Now also they will have good water for themselves and the community.
I am still trying to make a water well at Charlie and Pat Reynolds’ place and am now on the fourth location and am at 120 feet, I have hit rock and it is drilling very slow, but still optimistic that one of these days we will make a water well there.
Please pray that the Lord will help us have water there soon.
We have painted a lot of other peoples homes here in Guatemala so we decided it was time to paint our house. Georgette painted almost all the inside by herself, I helped with the really tall stuff. Then we started on the outside and have been working on it for almost 2 weeks. It is a bright color of orange but that is common for
here. It is good that we got this done before the rainy season starts next month. We also had to make some repairs to a fence out front, It gave me some good practice on working with cement and sand to fill holes on the cinder block wall. That is what almost all construction is made with down here and I needed practice working with it.
I took another truck load of food down to Rio Bravo feeding center on Tuesday and while I was there, Pastor Freddy and I went to look at a new water well project
We are working on a well and purification system for a fourth water purification station in Rio Bravo. This will be a well and purifier set up for an entire community of about 1800 people and a school.
I will do my best to explain what this will be and I know this is not a great picture but under this rusty tin is a square hole that is about 6’x6′ square and 8′ deep and then the well is below that 25 feet deep and in water that is not pure but usable. The water will pass through the UV purifier before it goes into a holding tank for storage. On the four corners of the square hole there will be columns that will hold a platform that will be about 14 feet high. The holding tank will be on top of the platform. From the holding tank the water will flow under gravity to the homes and school.
It is the month of April and that means that everyone here is getting ready for Samana Santa, (Holy Week) In the entire month of April on Friday nights, all night and Sunday all day and night there are parades or here they are called processions. There are large crowds of people all dressed in Purple who walk and carry or pull floats with a statue of Jesus on them, and bands playing somber music. Prior to this they make beautify designed carpets with colored saw dust mixed with flowers, they spend painstaking hours making these carpets called (alfombras) and then just march right over them, But it is representative of the sacrifice made for us.
We are praying and asking God’s direction for a little newer car for Georgette. For her english classes she makes many trips to Antigua and comes home after dark. Here for personal safety reasons you do not want to have a breakdown, the car that she is using now is getting a lot of miles on it and some years too. These are the prayer request for this month, Please pray for the water well work at Charlie’s, The situation with another car, For both Spanish and English classes, The people that we are able to shear the love of Jesus Christ with. Thank you for Keeping us lifted up before the Lord.
1 Peter 4:11 is one of my favorites, “Are you called to be a speaker? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Are you called to help others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then God will be given glory in everything through Jesus Christ, All glory and power belong to him forever and ever. Amen.”
